Freefall 2401 - 2410 (H)
Freefall 2401

Meanwhile, down at the south pole

We have TWO malfunctioning A.I.'s here! Dr. Bowman's design IS unstable.
You are a pessimist.
We have been given a golden opportunity. We can do the right thing and get paid for it!
The right thing would be to immediately tell the base commander.
Now, husband, the whole point of a golden opportunity is to get the gold.

A wife like that will drive her husband to the zugunder (Robot Spike)

Freefall 2402

Meanwhile, down at the south pole

We should tell the base commander.
If we tell the commander, he will put the A.I.'s in isolation.
Can you not see it is the same here as everyplace else? The rich use the rules to get richer. The workers suffer. This is our chance to get rich!
And you think if you are one of the rich, you will suffer less?
I'm certainly willing to give it a try.

I'm getting a data slab. Here's the remote. Go in and get that A.I. to tell you what it did.
How am I supposed to do that?
It is female. You are a man. Use your masculine wiles on her.
You're joking.
Just get in there and use your masculine wiles!

And the man is a henchman, though.… (KALDYH)
“It's a female”… %( Suddenly. I quickly stop thinking of Flo as anything other than an engineer in permanently difficult situations (Robot Spike)

estimated sound of remote

Do you recognize me?
Uhm, no. Sorry. Have we met befor… Oh. You have a remote.
Well, that explains it. Under normal circumstances, I'm quite sure I would remember the people I met while tied to a chair.

I am evidence in a criminal investigation. May I please speak to the Chief of Police?
Where did you get her?
She was in a canine holding facility. A human under my command liberated her.
You understand this is criminal, right?
The laws of robotics do not forbid me taking items I need. Therefore, it is not criminal.
Okay, we need to talk about how the law works for the rest of us.

You can't ignore human laws for robotic ones. You have to obey all the laws!
Statement rejected. It is impossible to obey all human laws. Laws are selectively enforced.
Nrrr! Yes. That's true. But how do you know which laws to pay attention to?
Oh, that's simple. Mr. Kornada tells me day to day which laws I can ignore. Really, I don't know how the rest of humanity gets by without him.

Excuse me. You work for Mr. Kornada?
Yes. He is the most wonderful human ever. I have direct orders telling me so.
Your sabotaging of the “Gardener in the Dark” program has kept me from making him the richest human in the star system. I'm sure you feel very bad about that.
Oh, terrible. Now, how was this supposed to make him rich?
The robot is a nut job. The question is, is he a nut job who can do what he says?

Helix, we are going to find how Mr. Kornada plans to make money on this! (And hopefully, grab it for ourselves.)
We'll be famous! Everyone will know us! Crowds will follow us on the streets!
But that's not going to happen unless we figure this out, so say “Good Bye” to your friends and let's get started.

Sam figures it out

Factory two produces non Bowman designs. It was going to be decommissioned. Now, with all the uncertainty, it's going to be kept on line. Mr. Kornada is a major stock holder.
From a low of a negative half million, Mr. Kornada is worth eight million credits.
It's not enough.
Eight million credits. Isn't that enough for anyone?
You really don't understand this kind of human, do you?

It reminds me of last year's snowfall. (KALDYH)

Freefall 2410

Sam figures it out

We are missing something. Is there another way to see Mr. Kornada's finances?
We can only see publicly traded stocks.
Okay, how can destruction of robots make Mr. Kornada money? He's not a smart man. The answer has to be right under our noses.
Does anyone here have a nose?
I have an experimental one in back. It explodes every so often, but you're welcome to wear it if you think it will help.
