Sam's great idea

A man on a ladder. A chef chopping vegetables. And a lady with ice cream?
It's a paint brush with paint fumes. No one understands my art.
Sam, this is pandering to the robots most primal instinct. Why would we do this?
Because if we don't, someone less ethical than us will.
I try to be good. Why does our most noble path always lead to the sewer?
Sewers serve a noble purpose. And like sewers, people prefer it when we stay out of sight and they don't have to think about us.

Sam, one of our big concerns is the robots getting too overprotective of humans.
Part of the service I'll provide. Teaching robots what risks are acceptable.
We need to bring Max Post in on this.
Max post. He used to be a criminal. An agitator for robot rights and general nuisance. Now he's considered an upright citizen.
You can learn from someone like him.
Exactly. I don't want to make the same mistake he did.

This idea has possibilities. Robots want to protect humans. Knowing when not to protect is very important.
We also need to teach them to protect smartly. Untrained robots will rush in to save a human. That's not always the best course of action.
For instance, a tall building fire. Saving humans becomes much more difficult if the passageways are jammed with the bodies of rescuers.

That's too much teaching. My Robot Park is supposed to be fun, not educational!
On the other hand, people don't leave the amusement park with a crushing debt load.
Sam!
No, no. Your way is better. Carry on.

Max! Is this your new place?
Sam Starfall. I figured you'd eventually visit me here.
Nice nameplate. Hmm. Is this nailed down?
Like I said, I figured you'd eventually visit me here.

Florence. What do you have there?
An incredible and
amazing idea by me. Want to see it before my genius is inflicted upon the public?
This is interesting.
And dangerous. Saving humans is the strongest desire a robot has.
Yes. Sam
points out that we're the worst people to do this, except for everyone else.
I'm in agreement with Sam. Which means we're thinking alike. One of us should be worried.

Source Sam's wisdom.
“Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…” House of Commons, 11 November 1947, Churchill by Himself, p574

How is this going to work?
I'm thinking of several tiers of interaction. The top tier would be live action role play. Various rescue situations in an actual physical environment.
We could teach cooperation. How to navigate terrain and how to restrain themselves from rushing into the rescue shouting “Leeroy Jenkins”!
Normally they shout “Human in danger”!
Either way, if it wipes out the rescue party, we want them in an environment where they can restart and try again. Real world emergencies offer very few opportunities for a do over.

The next tier down would be telepresence. Operating drones in the physical simulations. Third tier would be virtual interaction because there simply aren't enough humans for all the robots to get a chance.
With as much of the economy being taken over by robots as we expect, this could be a full time job for some humans.
Thing is, I don't want robots getting the idea that a human's role is to be the damsel in distress.
I'm known for being delicious. If humans ever want to swap designations, I'll be glad to trade.

Most robots aren't sealed well against water. We need fire fighting equipment that's compatible with them. We should also think about that in our city designs.
Are we at that point already? Where we need to start thinking about robot needs before human needs?
Production lines are already optimized for machines. The problem is when designers don't think about humans at all.
Some engineers don't expect their machines to ever break. I'm sure you've had to repair a few like that.
I will admit there are designers who if I ever meet and there is a heavy object handy, my human safeguards will be tested.

I agree with you on the water. While it's very good for fighting fires, we have to make sure the robots who go to this amusement park are safe.
Helix, those are the kind of people you want to surround yourself with. Smart and dedicated enough to do the work and too honest to cut you out of the deal.
This? This is peace of mind. Mr. Post is tense because he knows I'm going to steal something. When he notices his chair is gone, he can relax.
I have such a considerate captain.
