After doing the comic I realized I made one fairly similar long time ago and while this time the focus is on the piling list of promisses Valve has made one could argue the punchline is the same.

Pubg amuse me as a case study, the game come from nowhere and got insanely popular.

I know part of it is because the game is stream-friendly. The bubbles of downtime give the streamer time to chat with the subs.

But I did not expect it to be beat Counter Strike and Dota, obviously there is something more to the game.

Perhaps it's because it's a fairly novel idea which has not been used much before. The «me vs 100» concept is new and fresh and it's not something we could have 20 years ago I guess.

Another thing, perhaps more important, it's because it's a «me» game. Forget teamwork, I'm the best muthafucka out there and I'll prove it by killing everybody else. It's the hardcore version of «1vs1» me, except fighting 1 you fight everybody else.

And yes, you could do that on the old «deathmatch» like Unreal or Quake but I feel on deathmatch the player with best aim wins and not-so-good players slowly migrate to other games. On PUBG you can try to outsmart people or just get lucky and panic headshot the last person standing and get your dinner. Yes, the person with best aim will still win more but it's not as obvious and that illusion makes people coming back.

Or dunno, maybe people really like chicken.

I think more than being a strong deck, Druid (both Jade and Token) were easy to play. Your plan was fairly straighfoward and Innervate was both your free-win and out-of-the-jail card.

All in all, I think Machinegun Priest is stronger but it's harder to play and I believe you can perhaps tech to counter it. Druid was super easy and if one deck was giving you trouble you could easily put tech cards to counter what is giving your trouble.

With the nerfs I doubt people will keep playing it that much. The slowness of the deck is visible now and you can't yolo Ultimate Infestation turn 5 to catch up.

Honestly, even if Druid was not top dog, I'm happy with a little meta shake up.

I could rant more but every second I lose here is another second the comic is delayed so……….

I never understood why Valve created such a disappointing effect like the massed flies one.

I feel sometimes Valve designers have too much freedom to do what they want.

I kid… freedom is great, but I doubt this ugly effect would been released if this was a Blizzard game which wants their shit to be cool and popular.

Nightstalker is this buffy, scary looking blue vampire thing and you would think he is some kind of hard carry but nope… he is basically a support, and not a «melt your face» kind of support like Ogre Magi, but more of a control / utility one like Rubick.

On Dota 1 / early Dota 2 you could snowball him by playing like QoP of Pain but those days he is on the low end of late game power.

But given his utility is very unique with the night vision shenanigans, this give him a unique niche as opposed of being another strenght semi-carry people will never pick.

You know what to do Sonic, have Robotnik kidnaps Tails in your next game.

There is no Hooters here so I may have the wrong idea about it but in my mind it was a very family un-friendly place given the nature of the girls garments.

But who knows, I may be wrong and people go there for the hot dogs and that's the reason Sonic is partnering with them.
