Humans will soon be in the same position. Machine minds are not limited by the size of a skull or
the efficiency of glucose use.
My wife is of the position that we must move with the times. To remain human is to be left behind. I am of the position that if we move, we need to preserve what makes us human.
My wife believes we can eliminate ignorance. I believe ignorance is necessary. To quote Mark Twain, “They did not know it was impossible, so they did it.”
You'd also lose your sense of humor. Nothing ruins a punchline more than being omniscient.

A modified human who could work twenty four hours a day would be attractive to employers. Large employers might even offer a standard set of modifications at a discount.
Non modified employees would be less productive and less profitable. Over time, they would be phased out. If profit is the only goal, baseline humans could go extinct in the workplace due to loss of economic habitat.
In this area, I'm glad sqids aren't like humans. It would take a lot of joy out of theft if you constantly had someone looking over your shoulder making sure you met productivity goals.

Modifications, especially brain modifications, are not yet common. Much work still needs to be done in how memory and consciousness work.
Biological artificial intelligence has addressed the issue. It is one of the reasons why my wife is so excited to have access to Ms. Ambrose.
Also, Ms. Ambrose, rest assured I shall work with you to change the subject should my wife ever mention trepanning in conversation.

We're close. Cutting thrust. Sam, would you help me with the suit again?
One more question. Did you ever encounter scripture or evidence that the god of Abraham manifested on your world?
Can't say that I have.
Disappointing, though not unexpected. I promised I would ask if I ever encountered an alien.
Wait. Was that a question where a different answer would have meant lots of money and resources coming to my world?
Come along, Sam.

Leak check is complete. The life support pack is at full charge and all gas pressures are nominal.
Radio check. Is hatch EVAH4 secured?
Radio check
good. Doggy door is closed and latched.
This is repetitive. We did all the same checks two hours ago.
When it comes to heartbeats and breathing, I like repetitive.

Do you have all the tools you need?
Yes. I physically checked them earlier and the RFID check shows everything is still in place.
Your suit telemetry looks good. I've requisitioned a drone to assist. Opening cargo bay door.
Thank you. Sam, you don't need to wait by the airlock. This is going to take a while.
I need a vacuum rated suit. Not being able to go out an airlock is like being a sea captain who can't swim. More important, it could cause me to miss out future looting opportunities.

Main Drive and aft thrusters are locked out for E.V.A.
Understood. Thank you.
Second tether is attached. Previous tether disconnected. Always in that order.
Space walkies are the great equalizer between humans and canines. We both have to follow the same leash laws.

Considering the buswork and breaker cabinets are physically gone, I think I can be forgiven for not performing the lock out step of this job.
