What are you up to?
Learning about humans! It is going to be amazing when our species officially make contact.
I mean, even if you don't want to share your technology, your history of thefts alone is going to advance my culture by hundreds of years!
I swear, when humans went to the stars, it wasn't to be a bad example.

Humans aren't only thieves and scoundrels. We're builders and protectors and creators.
We make farms and factories and cities. We have laws. We have a culture that is based both on self reliance and cooperation with others.
In short, in order to steal wealth, someone first has to generate it.
That last part is a convincing argument.

Have a seat. Plenty of room.
Been working out. Need mouthwash. Be right back.
That is a good reason to pant. No need to shower after every workout.
I go off a schedule. I shower once a month, every month.
Eww!
Yeah, I'd get the same reaction back home. But this is an alien environment, so I'm allowed to be a clean freak.

What were you talking about?
Economics. The means of production. Capital. Land. Labor.
Sam is very good at finding loopholes and system exploits. Very, very, very good.
Would you mind if we put on a horror movie? I need something to calm my nerves.

Attack of the spider crab from Neptune. Horror. Romance. Great special effects. It's a classic.
What are you waiting for? Start the movie.
When humans see something new, their first thought is “Can it hurt me?” A wolf's first thought is “Can I eat it?”
Sam, uncover your eyes.
It diminishes the scare factor considerably when I keep wondering how the monster would taste.

So, what did you think?
It was a very silver age. Who would have thought an allergy to human dandruff would be the spider crab's undoing?
Does your planet actually have things like that?
An article on the real Japanese spider crab.
3.7 meters from claw to claw. Smaller than in the movie. Large enough to make me very glad I am nowhere near your homeworld.

On a different subject, we have nearly three weeks until we reach the station. If we each sleep on a different shift, there will be two of us awake at all times.
I'll sleep on day shift.
Of course, the day shift is when most of the work takes place.
Even better. I'll be out of your way.
Should I be upset that his laziness makes our jobs easier?
You're just confused because my negative traits have positive effects.

I'm going to hit the sack. Catch up with you two later.
Sleeping on different shifts means we'll only see each other for eight hours a day. That should help us from getting on each other's nerves. Long duration missions are considered a failure if crew members kill each other.
I've heard on really long missions, they inventory the crew to make sure the amount that left is the same as the amount that arrives.
Though on trips greater than nine months, it's not uncommon for them to arrive with more crew than they left with.
