Capcom seen to only care about whatever franchise can give huge revenues, Square embraced mobile and Konami followed year later. Perhaps you can't be a big videogame studio without "selling out" those days, or perhaps it's hard to be a fanboy on those internet days. Or maybe, just maybe, those companies really fall from grace and they just doesn't delivery the top quality game they used to.
