Those kind of players are the main source of income in some of those games and it's said some companies even make games specifically targetting that kind of players. Some whales are just rich people with extra disposable income, but many times are people with little self-control who goes on debt because they wanted an extra resource to finish some building on a shitty mobile game. I won't sleep easily at night if I worked on that kind of stuff.
